A fabric with two layers of fabric and a filling in between bound by stitching. This filling is usually "wadding", also known as "Guatiné". Currently the fillers are usually synthetic fibres.
The name comes from the French "I’ouaté" meaning padded, cushioned and possibly from the Arabic "wadd'a" which means cotton sheet, a thick sheet of cotton, sticky on both sides, used for quilting or as a filler.
These fabrics are used mainly for bedspreads.
