Toile de jouy

1 December 2013
Originally from the city of Jouy in France, it is a fabric printed in a single colour on a light coloured background depicting country or pastoral scenes.

The design is usually monochromatic, red, maroon, violet (or eggplant) on an ecru or smoked background, or other degraded colours, pink, light or dark blue, light or dark green, even beige or grey.

Toile de Jouy is basically used for decoration, curtains, upholstery.... The decorative motifs in Toile de Jouy are also used in wallpaper and in clothing accessories such as aprons or foulards.
